How do I know my headset size? ›

To determine the correct inner diameter of the upper headset cup, simply measure the diameter of your steerer tube. To determine the inner diameter of the lower cup, measure the steerer tube directly above the fork crown.

The identifier starts off with two letters which signify the type of headset it is. “EC” stands for External Cup, and “ZS” stands for Zero Stack, “IS” Stands for Integrated System. The numbers following the two letters signify the headtube and fork dimensions. Take this headset for example: ZS44/28.6 EC44/40.

What does a headset cap do? The headset cap is used to adjust the preload in your headset bearings. It does not keep your stem or fork in place. It's primarily designed to keep everything in place during installation or headset adjustment.

Next you'll need to adjust the top cap. This component controls the compression on the headset so it is important not to over tighten this. Generally 3-4nm will be perfect.
